      <image:title>About</image:title>
<image:caption>Hello, I’m Maryyum :) I am an established socio-political analyst, cultural commentator and community cohesion expert. My aims have always been twofold. Firstly, to understand the motivations driving human behaviours in the face of social and political issues. Secondly, to utilise my insights from academic research, political advocacy and commercial expertise, creating innovate and impactful solutions to address contemporary global and societal challenges. Quite often I get asked, “what do you do?” Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever given the same response twice! Partly because I believe that my journey in life so far deserves much more time and space. That’s why I decided to launch The SHIFT. This platform is dedicated to spotlighting my pursuits: past, present and future. As the world continues to turn, and trends rapidly shift, it’s imperative to stay atop of, and navigate, all changes. The SHIFT is my unique way of making sense of these movements. Alongside this, you get to know me a little better. Let’s put it this way: The SHIFT is more personal than LinkedIn, yet more formal than a Facebook page. It’s a sharp and succinct set-up to showcase all of my passions, skills, knowledge exchange activities and their consequent social impact. I embody the saying, “be the change you wish to see in the world”. The world is forever in flux. It’s up to us to move with it! Come join this third-culture kid on a journey of learning, creating and flourishing. Maryyum :)</image:caption>

In order to make sense of global movements - some mercurial others mundane, but each impactful in their own right - I put together this platform. An ambitious academic. An astute analyst. An aspiring advocate. And destined to be so much more, I’m here to facilitate constructive conversations, decipher decisive dialogue and engage inspiring insights from around the globe. I strive towards a better world and I believe this can be achieved by harnessing the power of knowledge exchange. I engage with young people from BAME backgrounds, nurturing their talent, and aiding them in overcoming obstacles to attainment and barriers to access. My aim is to enable and empower youth voices. Besides, lecturing and tutoring in academic settings, I often serve as a mentor and role model for future faith leaders, developing their skills and techniques in navigating deliberative democratic processes. I deliver advice and workshops on tackling racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia and Antisemitism in educational institutions. <image:title>Training</image:title>
<image:caption>2019-2020. I provided training to religious leaders through the Faith Leaders Training Initiative (FLTI). As part of the FLTI core delivery team, I was heavily involved in equipping leaders of faith-based organisations with the skills and techniques required to tackle some of the most difficult social challenges such as child abuse, violence against women and girls, racism, homophobia and sectarianism. My training fostered stronger cohesion amongst different faith groups. I aided in establishing a diverse network of 250+ interfaith leaders who are equipped to tackle social issues, appreciative of difference, and working alongside services in their local authorities to champion causes that affect us all.</image:caption>

<image:title>Training - 2019-2020. I was involved with the AHRC-funded network project Women, Faith and Humanitarian Interventions (WFHI). The network addresses situations of crisis where there is an urgent need for humanitarian strategies to address religious particularities, especially those of women and girls. Key areas for consideration are rights to water and hygiene, as well as resources for mental and emotional well-being. One output of the project is a toolkit resource for activists and practitioners in the field. The WFHI toolkit offers insights to help those working in humanitarian development better understand and account for the significant role played by faith in the daily lives of the women, girls and communities they seek to aid.</image:title>
