Faith
Belief. Spirituality. Religion.
Towards the end of the Cold War, it became the norm to disregard religion, and spirituality and reasoning were deemed mutually exclusive. With successive Western liberal democracies shunning religion, and major heads of state suggesting that we ‘don’t do God’, at the turn of the century, we found ourselves entering an era of reclamation of religion. Faith had been restored. Belief and reasoning are acknowledged as intertwined. Accepted to co-exist.
In an increasingly polarised world where religion is reviled by some as a source of negativity, how can we foster familiarity, fraternity and fulfilment through faith? How do we support spirituality as a solution to our world’s biggest challenges?
With over a decade of inter- and intrafaith advocacy and activism, spanning the globe, I address many of these issues. As a Muslim woman who came of age in a predominantly Catholic society, I realise the positive role that faith can play in our everyday lives. Through my community cohesion projects, I have been at the forefront of uniting various different faith and belief traditions through enriching and impactful engagements.
